Chests are rewards you get for levelling up your profile and heroes, through Daily Login Rewards, or through Daily Victories. Chests give you several random rewards of a common, uncommon, rare or epic quality.
They replaced Tributes and Victory Chests in the 38.3 patch.

Limited Chests
Veteran Chests
These chests are given to players that have played before the V42 update. The amount of those Chests earned depends on the amount of crafting materials, card packs and cards that you have owned before the patch.

Shadow's Eve 2017 Chests
Limited edition chests may drop after you’ve completed a match, and contain various in-game items and special Shadow’s Eve rewards such as the Shadow’s Eve skins and banners. They can also be dropped from Twitch via Paragonbot.
The chests may contain one of the following:
- New Shadows’ Eve skin
- Past Shadows’ Eve skin
- One of three new banners:
- Bash-O’-Lantern Banner
- Infernal Wukong Banner
- Crypt Goddess Yin Banner
